What is an authorization hold?
An authorization hold (sometimes called a pending transaction) is a temporary hold placed by your bank or card issuer to verify that funds are available for your purchase.
Authorization holds are a standard part of the payment process and help ensure that funds are available when your order is ready to be completed.
Why do I see a pending charge on my account?
When you place an order, your bank may temporarily hold the purchase amount on your payment method.
This hold is not a final charge and may appear as a pending transaction until your order ships or the hold is released by your bank.
When will I be charged for my order?
For most payment methods, the charge is finalized when your order ships.
Because of this, there may be a delay between when the authorization hold appears and when the final charge is processed.
Why do I see both a pending charge and a completed charge?
This is normal. The pending transaction is the authorization hold, while the completed transaction is the final charge for your order.
The completed charge is not a duplicate charge. Once the authorization hold is released, the pending transaction will disappear based on your bank's processing time.
What happens if my order is canceled?
If your order is canceled, the authorization hold will be released by your financial institution.
For credit and debit cards, it may take up to 7 business days for the hold to be removed, depending on your bank's policies.
How do authorization holds work for gift cards?
When you place an order using a gift card, an authorization hold is placed on the gift card balance.
Once your order ships, the purchase amount is deducted from the gift card.
If the order is canceled, the authorization hold is typically released within 14 business days. This timeframe cannot be expedited.
What should I do if I have questions about an authorization hold?
If you have concerns about a pending transaction or the availability of funds, we recommend contacting your bank or card issuer directly, as they control when authorization holds are released.
